Elements Refined by Phil and Patty Wise

Welcome to Elements Refined! We are outdoor enthusiasts with a passion for creating functional gear, one design at a time.

For as long as I have known her, Patty has been highly skilled with a needle and thread. Hand sewn, machine sewn, patterned, or freehand she'll run with an idea and never fail to impress with her impeccable attention to detail. Patty clearly brings the 'refined' to Elements Refined.

My background and skill-set lays more in the 'elements'. I started with a sail making class about 15 years ago when I noticed that my boat needed some work. Three boats later, I had saved thousands of dollars by taking it upon myself to sew up sails, bags, canopies, and covers. Even more importantly though, I discovered a real satisfaction in creating these needed items myself as opposed to purchasing them. This led me to expand my creations into custom canvas totes and duffel bags that I made for personal use and for gifts.

A little while back I started thinking about camping and hiking gear. Patty and I have always been outdoor adventurers and equipping ourselves as such has been an ongoing task and expense. Well, why not make our own? It turns out that there isn't a whole lot of do-it-yourself information or patterns available for creating outdoor gear. That's how Elements Refined came to be. I recognized the need for good patterns and instructions for creating functional outdoor gear. Together, Patty and I have thus far designed and created backpacks, duffel bags, and chalk bags. Our main focus is ensuring a minimalist design with the utmost functionality.
